Tiny Troubles, Mighty Remedies: Unveiling Homeopathy for Kids.
Children's well-being is every parent's priority. Homeopathy offers safe and gentle remedies for common childhood ailments and is a treatment suitable for all ages. In babies and children, Homeopathy can help with a wide range of ailments from acute conditions such as colic, teething problems, colds, coughs and tummy upsets to more serious chronic illness such as eczema and asthma.
If in doubt about any illness always consult your Homeopath or General Practitioner.
For more serious (or chronic) conditions it is best to consult a qualified Homeopath who will prescribe a safe, effective course of treatment that is individually tailored to your child's health needs. This kind of treatment is often called constitutional treatment and will enhance your child’s immune function.
Let’s have a look at some helpful remedies:
Chamomilla is renowned for soothing teething troubles and calming irritable babies, these children can have extreme irritability, nothing satisfies them, they get into a hot and bothered state. Children want to be carried and walked around. One of their cheeks may be red and the other pale. Your child may be furious with the pain and scream loudly and may be worse at night.
Another remedy, Pulsatilla addresses children's emotional needs during illnesses.
Your child may be whiny, clingy and tearful, but is much better for a cuddle than the Chamomilla child. There may be a bland, green-yellow nasal discharge and the child will be relieved by fresh air.
Other remedies like Arnica for bumps and bruises, and Colocynth or Mag Phos for colic in babies - are essential in every parent's Homeopathic toolkit. In Colocynth there is severe pain with drawing up of the legs in an effort to bend double. The baby may seem restless, angry and frustrated. Pains may come on suddenly and be relieved by firm pressure on the tummy or by bending over your arm. Mag Phos is similar to Colocynth in that the baby draws up the knees, but the pain is better for warmth and massage as well as pressure.
Colic or stomach-ache in children and adults needs to be carefully monitored in case it is caused by a rumbling appendix.
Taking a Homeopathic remedy is easy, simply tip one or two pills into the lid of the bottle, or on to a spoon (returning extras), then put them in your child’s mouth. This is the most common way to take a remedy. Replace the lid on the bottle as quickly as possible.
The pills should be sucked until they are dissolved; if this is not possible (for instance, with babies) the pills can be given crushed on a teaspoon or dissolved in a little water.
Nothing should be put in the mouth for fifteen minutes before or after taking the remedy in order to give it the best chance of working. This includes food, and drink.
