Unlocking the Power of Homeopathy: Your Path to Natural Healing.
Homeopathy is a gentle and natural system of medicine that has been practised for over 200 years. Unlike conventional medicine, Homeopathy treats the individual as a whole, considering not only physical symptoms but also emotional and mental aspects.
Homeopathic remedies provide a gentle, safe and effective method of treatment for everything from minor ailments to chronic illnesses. Minor ailments can be treated as acute illnesses with first aid treatment, whereas chronic illnesses need to be treated by a qualified Homeopath.
Samuel Hahnemann was the founder of Homeopathy. He was a doctor in the 18th century who became disillusioned with the medicine of that time. Hahnemann became dissatisfied with the explanation that quinine was effective against malaria because of its bitterness. So he decided to take some quinine himself to see what would happen. He developed new symptoms from taking the substance and these symptoms stopped when he discontinued the quinine.
Hahnemann was excited by this discovery and decided to test it out with other substances – and on other healthy volunteers. He later called this method of testing substances on healthy people “Provings”. Provings are still carried out today and all are recorded in books called “Materia Medica”. These are lists of symptom pictures of each remedy, as discovered by the healthy volunteers who took part in the provings.
The original work of Samuel Hahnemann still guides Homeopathy today.
There are three laws of Homeopathy:
The first one is the Law of Similars - This was one of those Eureka moments for Hahnemann.
He realized that if healthy people took a particular substance and recorded their symptoms, then somebody suffering from similar symptoms could be treated using that same substance. This is generally expressed as “like cures like” and is one of the fundamental principles of Homeopathy.
The second law is the Law of the Minimum Dose - It was found that simply diluting a substance was often dangerous and ineffective - so Hahnemann had to devise a way to overcome this obstacle. Instead of stirring his mixture as usual, he struck a small bottle of the medicinal substance against a leather-bound book repeatedly. He found that by doing this, the remedy retained its beneficial properties. Hahnemann discovered that the more times this potentisation process was repeated, the more powerful the medicine became. This he later called “succussion”.
The third law is “Herrings Law of the Direction of Cure” – Dr. Herring, a Homeopathic doctor in the United States, observed that the progress of cure in constitutional treatment always appeared to take the same course:
From the inside to the outside
From the top to the bottom
From the most important organs to the less important organs
Symptoms return in the reverse order of their appearance.
As I said earlier, Homeopathic treatment is individually based. The concept of treating the “whole person” is an essential element of Homeopathy. Homeopaths do not treat specific conditions – but the person as a whole.
The degree to which a person is vulnerable to outside influences is known as their susceptibility. It follows that because we are all unique individuals, signs of illness are unique to each person. Your child’s earache will vary from my child’s earache because one of the symptoms displayed may be that your child is thirsty, which could be indicative of the remedy Sulphur; while my child may be refusing drinks which could indicate the remedy Pulsatilla. Choosing the most suitable remedy will depend on the “totality of the symptoms” that are exhibited by the individual.
Due to the way in which remedies are prepared - no toxic substances are involved – there can be no danger from overdosing or addiction.
Some common remedies you may have already heard of are: Arnica which is used for bruises, strains, and trauma; and Chamomilla for soothing teething troubles in babies; these exemplify the efficacy of Homeopathy. These remedies are tailored to each individual's symptoms, making them uniquely effective.
